In particular, we are promoting FD, such as class improvement from the student's point of view, introduction and utilization of portfolios for teacher class improvement, and professional development of faculty and staff including training for beginners.

In order for students to acquire the Educational Philosophy of ““One’s way”” based on the founding School Philosophy, the Hachioji Campus, which mainly houses humanities departments, conducts FD activities by committees of faculties, departments, and graduate schools. We have been working hard to improve our teaching. In April 2011, this center was established on the Hachioji Campus of our university, aiming to further enhance FD activities at our university. Since the 2008 revision of the University Establishment Standards, which made FD mandatory, each university has been working on various FD initiatives. must reflect the Diploma Policy (policy for conferring degrees). The current stream of university reforms began with the outline of the University Establishment Standards in 1991, and the report of the Central Council for Education and other trends are a shift from teaching to learning, university management according to three policies, and quality assurance of learning. In the revision of the establishment standards for quality assurance, it was added that "constant review of education and research activities, etc., based on the results of inspections and evaluations, as well as the results of accreditation and evaluation, is necessary." The speed of the reform is remarkable, and it is no exaggeration to say that the teaching skills and knowledge required in the field are greatly different from the university education that you have learned yourself. History of establishment
It was born with the aim of further enhancing FD activities and improving overall education.
Up until now, our university has mainly focused on individual FD activities by committees in faculties, departments, and graduate schools. However, in 2008, due to the revision of the University Establishment Standards, which made FD mandatory, universities were required to make even greater efforts toward FD. In addition, due to changes in the surrounding environment, the academic abilities of students attending universities are diversifying, and there is an increasing demand for the diversification of ways of thinking among university faculty members. Against this backdrop, the Center was established in 2011 to enhance FD activities and improve the teaching as a whole. Since its establishment, it has been energetically engaged in activities such as the introduction of the SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) project, in which teachers work to improve classes as research activities, regular holding of FD forums and FD seminars, and implementation of various trainings aimed at professional development of faculty and staff. Dates: June 18th, July 12th, 2021, September 10th, November 5th, January 7th, 2022, January 28th In response to the introduction of online classes at Hachioji Campus to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection from the spring semester of 2020, we planned and implemented a total of six classes to support teachers' online classes. We dealt with a wide range of themes such as class design and grade evaluation in online classes.
As one of the pillars of our center's business, we provide training services for our faculty members. The purpose is to improve and improve the quality of learning for students and to realize the university's Educational Philosophy of "“One’s way”." In order to achieve these goals, it is of course necessary for students to take the initiative in learning, but it is also essential to improve and develop the educational capabilities of the faculty members who support and lead them. In order to meet the diversifying and complicated roles of university teachers and the demands of society, the three main teacher training programs that will be held throughout the year from 2020 are the "New Teacher Training Program," "Brush Up Program," and "Teaching Portfolio Training." We have two courses. The training is organized based on the "5 areas of educational profession" advocated by the Japan Higher Education Development Association (JAED).
[3 courses] ■New teacher training program In principle, this program is aimed at faculty members who have been at the university for less than five years, and aims to improve the educational skills necessary for class management, such as creating syllabuses and evaluating grades. ■ Brush-up program With the aim of continuing to refine Professor methods, the program is structured to be more practical and specific, such as how to teach writing and how to use ICT effectively. ■ Teaching portfolio training This course is aimed at teachers who are newly appointed or have more experience in teaching. The purpose of this program is for teachers to write their own teaching portfolios through reflection on their own educational activities and mentoring with the Center's teachers.

SoTL is an abbreviation for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, which means "an effort to improve the Professor / learning process through academic exploration of lesson practice by teachers". In 2017, we introduced the SoTL project as an initiative for FD to support teachers' lesson research.
SCOT (Students Consulting on Teaching) is a program that collects and provides information on classroom activities to desired teachers. It is conducted by students interested in teaching and learning with the aim of improving the quality of university education and providing in-class activities from the student's perspective. To become an SCOT, you will be certified as a formal SCOT after undergoing FD training, such as what a syllabus is, so that we can provide useful information to faculty members. This university is the first university in Japan to work on SCOT, and has been active since 2012.
The Teikyo University Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is located on the Hachioji Campus, which is the main campus of the university. On the campus, many students and faculty members study and research on a daily basis, realizing center activities that are closely linked to the field.
