About the Higher Education Development Center

Center philosophy

The Center for Teaching and Learning (Teikyo University: CTL) is based on the founding School Philosophy of our university, our Educational Philosophy of "“One’s way”," and our educational policy of "Practical learning Educational Guidelines, International perspectives and Open mindedness" We will promote activities to promote education that will be realized. The purpose of this center is to investigate and improve Professor systems such as Professor methods, curricula, and educational evaluation in higher education, and to promote promote faculty development (FD).

promote faculty development (FD) Definition
FD at our university means improving individual classes and curricula, aiming to achieve the educational goals of faculties, departments, graduate schools, etc. under the founding School Philosophy and our own Educational Philosophy and Educational Guidelines. It is a general term for initiatives aimed at organizational and continuous verification and improvement based on collaboration between teaching staff and student participation, regarding the organization and educational environment to promote this.

History of establishment

It was born with the aim of further enhancing FD activities and improving overall education.

Up until now, our university has mainly focused on individual FD activities by committees in faculties, departments, and graduate schools. However, in 2008, due to the revision of the University Establishment Standards, which made FD mandatory, universities were required to make even greater efforts toward FD. In addition, due to changes in the surrounding environment, the academic abilities of students attending universities are diversifying, and there is an increasing demand for the diversification of ways of thinking among university faculty members. Against this backdrop, the Center was established in 2011 to enhance FD activities and improve the teaching as a whole.
Since its establishment, it has been energetically engaged in activities such as the introduction of the SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) project, in which teachers work to improve classes as research activities, regular holding of FD forums and FD seminars, and implementation of various trainings aimed at professional development of faculty and staff. I am continuing my activities.
