Center philosophy

In the future, we will not only promote FD activities throughout the university, but also further develop support and cooperation for FD activities in each faculty, department, graduate school, etc., and also consider support for staff development (SD) activities. At the same time, we would like to develop initiatives that contribute to the education, research, and social contribution activities that Teikyo University is aiming for.

History of establishment

It was born with the aim of further enhancing FD activities and improving overall education.

In addition to the activity reports by this center, there were 3 FD activity reports from the FD activities conducted by each faculty, department, graduate school, etc. on the Hachioji Campus. This time, we received presentations from the Faculty of Faculty of Law, Department of Department of Political Science, Graduate School of Teacher Education, and Common Education Center.

Dates: August 17, 2020, September 11, October 23, November 13, December 25, January 29, 2021
In response to the introduction of online lessons at the Hachioji Campus to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infections from the spring of 2020, we planned and implemented a total of 6 lessons to support teachers' online lessons. We dealt with a wide range of themes such as lesson design and grade evaluation in online lessons.

As one of the pillars of our center's business, we provide training services for our faculty members. The purpose is to improve and improve the quality of learning for students and to realize the university's Educational Philosophy of "“One’s way”." In order to achieve these goals, it is of course necessary for students to take the initiative in learning, but it is also essential to improve and develop the educational capabilities of the faculty members who support and lead them.
In order to meet the diversifying and complicated roles of university teachers and the demands of society, the three main teacher training programs that will be held throughout the year from 2020 are the "New Teacher Training Program," "Brush Up Program," and "Teaching Portfolio Training." We have two courses. The training is organized based on the "5 areas of educational profession" advocated by the Japan Higher Education Development Association (JAED).

[3 courses]
■ Neulehrer training program
In principle, we aim to improve the educational skills necessary for class management, such as creating syllabuses and evaluating grades, for faculty members who have been in office for less than 5 years.
■ Brush-up program
For the purpose of continuous study of Professor methods, the program structure is more practical and concrete, such as how to teach writing and how to effectively use ICT.
■ Teaching portfolio training
The purpose is to write a teaching portfolio for individual faculty members through reflection on their own educational activities and mentoring with the faculty members of this center, targeting faculty members who have educational experience of new employees or above.

[5 areas of educational function]

  • Area 1 Understanding the university community
  • Area 2 Class design (goal setting, implementation plan, grade evaluation)
  • Area 3 Educational Practice
  • Area 4 Grade evaluation, feedback
  • Area 5 Continuous education development and self-improvement / career development

SoTL is an abbreviation for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, which means "an effort to improve the Professor / learning process through academic exploration of lesson practice by teachers". In 2017, we introduced the SoTL project as an initiative for FD to support teachers' lesson research.

SCOT (Students Consulting on Teaching) is a program that collects and provides information on classroom activities to desired teachers. It is conducted by students interested in teaching and learning with the aim of improving the quality of university education and providing in-class activities from the student's perspective. To become an SCOT, you will be certified as a formal SCOT after undergoing FD training, such as what a syllabus is, so that we can provide useful information to faculty members. This university is the first university in Japan to work on SCOT, and has been active since 2012.
