Vehicle-based mobility, which realizes the joy of human mobility, is accompanied by CO2 and harmful emissions, which are one of the causes of global warming (Well to Wheel). Considering the total amount of CO2 emitted), CO2 is also emitted from BEV and FCV vehicles). Therefore, in our laboratory, we will conduct research on CO2 and harmful emission reduction technologies from mobility centered on automobiles, aiming for a sustainable society.

Our Research

Research on CO2 and harmful emission reduction technology using finished vehicles (RDE research)

Emissions of CO2 and harmful emissions vary greatly depending on the operating conditions. Using an actual car, drive on the actual road centered on Utsunomiya city, and measure CO2 and harmful exhaust gas from that car. By analyzing this measurement result and the operating parameters of the accelerator pedal, etc., we aim to achieve both improved drivability and reduction of CO2 and harmful emissions (RDE; Real Driving Emissions).
This research is being carried out with the assistance of the bicycle race in 2019.

Research on CO2 from engine and toxic exhaust gas reduction technology (Engine CFD Reseach)

Diesel engines have the challenge of emitting NOx and particulate matter (PM). The number of emissions (PN) of the particulate matter is also subject to regulation, and we are working on research on biofuels as a low PM & PN emission technology. We are conducting fuel single spray measurement using biofuel and engine combustion test using an experimental single cylinder engine, working to improve the calculation accuracy of 3D CFD simulation, and making technical proposals aimed at reducing CO2 and harmful emissions. increase.

Vehicle driving simulation

In our laboratory, we have been working on the measurement on the actual road in addition to the chassis dynamometer test that measures the fuel consumption and harmful exhaust gas of automobiles. However, measurement on the actual road requires a lot of time and man-hours. We aim to build a simulation environment that can calculate the fuel consumption and exhaust gas of automobiles on this actual road.
If it is possible to construct simulations of fuel consumption and exhaust gas on many types of automobiles and various actual roads, it is possible to propose a driving method that reduces fuel consumption and exhaust gas by comparing with the actual fuel consumption of the user.
