WHAT ARE 17GOALS OF SDGs?
WHAT ARE 17GOALS OF SDGs?

"Responsibility" Education At the Nakayama Seminar of the Faculty of Education of Education, we are developing activities focusing on Guam, which is known as a world-class resort area. International exchange has evolved beyond seminars to classes for international understanding at affiliated elementary schools.

Nakayama Seminar conducts international understanding education and exchange activities through Guam

As part of international exchange activities, the seminar will accept high school students from Guam, and the seminar students will introduce Japanese culture and student life. There is also an opportunity for seminar students to go to Guam and learn about their local life.

Seminar students establish a group to convey the history and cultural background of Guam through "Chamoro Dance"

Chamorro dance is a dance that expresses the myths and folklore of Guam's indigenous people, Chamorro, and the feelings of modern people. There are dances from the old days and dances influenced by the Spanish Formosa, and the costumes are different. Guam has a history of being invaded by Japan, and students learn the history and ideas of Guam through dance.

Seminar students become elementary school teachers and take up chamorro dance in elementary school international understanding classes

A seminar student who became a teacher at Teikyo University Elementary School holds a class for third graders to explore different cultures such as culture, language, and music from the performance of chamorro dance. At that time, seminar students also support the learning of elementary school students.

A virtuous cycle of "education of responsibility" that conveys the learning gained from understanding Chamorro culture to the future is realized

For example, developed countries that obtain resources from developing countries have "responsibility", and we who live in the present age have "responsibility" for the future. The scope of such "responsibility" is wide and difficult to understand. Nakayama Seminar's action first recognizes the "responsibility" hidden in interstate and economic relations by learning the complex history of Guam. Then, the students who learned became teachers after graduation, creating a cycle of educating children about "responsibility". It can be said that this is a good example of practicing SDGs in the field of education.
