Exciting Learning Classroom at the Graduate School of Teacher Education

Learn about developmental disabilities through collaboration with medical care

The Graduate School of Teacher Education offers the Exciting Learning Classroom, a learning support program for elementary school students who are struggling with reading and writing, in collaboration with the Pediatric LD Outpatient Clinic of the Hospital of the School of Medicine, the Department of Orthoptics of the Faculty of Medical Technology, and the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Liberal Arts. Through the Exciting Learning Classroom, students can also learn about learning support that integrates medicine, psychology, and special needs education.

Children who visit Teikyo University Hospital's Pediatric LD Outpatient Clinic and desire learning support are welcome to enroll in the study group. The classes are primarily for students in elementary school who are enrolled in regular classes and do not receive any special support while they are in school.
The content is created to foster the ability to listen, speak, read, write, calculate, and reason according to the characteristics of each individual student and is taught by teachers who specialize in special needs education based on medical diagnosis and psychological assessment. In some cases, systematic and comprehensive visual function assessments are conducted with the cooperation of faculty members from the Department of Orthoptics of the Faculty of Medical Technology and the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Liberal Arts, and visual function training is also conducted as part of the assessment process.
In addition to serving as a clinical setting, the Exciting Learning Classroom also serves as a location for research on learning disabilities assessment and instruction, as well as for undergraduate and graduate students to learn about the practice of special support education. We hold the "Teikyo Developmental Study Group," "Study Guidance Workshop for Children Who Stumble in Reading and Writing," and "Summer Intensive Course" on LD, respectively, in order to further our understanding.
