On Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the GENKOTSU Tachikawa Tachihi Tournament, a professional boxing tournament held at Tachihi Arena (Tachikawa City, Tokyo), Yamato Masuda (2nd year, Faculty of Liberal Arts) competed as a professional boxer in the bantamweight class and won his professional debut match.
Masuda has been boxing since he was six years old, and when choosing his career path, he decided to enter the Department of History at ICU due to his interest in military history and the fact that it would allow him to continue his studies at the boxing gym he belongs to. After enrolling, he trained daily under the guidance of Associate Professor Takasugi Yohei, who teaches modern military history in the department, while balancing his studies and his competitive life, and successfully passed the professional test. Despite being his professional debut, Masuda approached the match in a relaxed manner, launching aggressive attacks from the beginning. He landed a blow in the fourth round that landed him with a TKO victory, drawing loud cheers and an excited atmosphere from the arena.
With his second professional fight coming up in December, we hope you will continue to support Masuda, who is expected to achieve even greater success in the future.
