At the 54th South Korea Society of Endoscopic Robotic Surgery & 14th International Symposium (KSERS 2024) held in Daejeon, South Korea from Thursday, April 11th to Saturday, April 13th, 2024, Assistant Professor Sueyoshi Takumi of the Innovation Lab Okinaga Research Institute of Teikyo University and Professor Sugimoto Maki of the same institute received a Travel Grant Award for their research presentation titled "Development of hologram-Enhanced Navigation system integrating metaverse-based spatial capturing of surgeons' hand movements and verbal instructions: Benefits in endoscopic robotic HPB & GI surgery."
The South Korea Society for Endoscopic and Robotic Surgery is one of the leaders in the international standardization of endoscopic and robotic surgery in South Korea, and cooperates with international endoscopic Surgery societies from around the world, such as EAES, JSES, SAGES, ELSA, and IFSES, to hold an international symposium once a year to discuss the latest academic trends.
The award-winning presentation concerned the development of a navigation system that records Surgery 's hand movements and verbal commentary in the metaverse space during endoscopic robotic surgery in the gastrointestinal, hepatic, biliary and pancreatic regions, and allows the surgeon to relive the experience in a virtual space as a hologram while synchronizing with a patient's organ model. The award was given in recognition of the research results of the institute and Holoeyes Inc. Assistant Professor Sueyoshi, who made the presentation, said, "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all those involved in this research. I intend to continue to study further to improve the quality of research activities at Okinaga Research Institute of Teikyo University." We look forward to seeing Assistant Professor Sueyoshi and Professor Sugimoto's future success.
