Utsunomiya CampusGraduate School from our university's Graduate Graduate School of Science and Engineering received the ``Young Excellent Presentation Award'' at the 37th Euglena Research Conference.

At the 37th Euglena Research Meeting held at University Nara Campus on Saturday, November 12, 2022, Teikyo University Faculty of Science and Engineering Department of BiosciencesProfessor Yuki Koshizuka belonging to Tomoko Shinomura's laboratory ( Graduate School of Science and Engineering 2nd year master's student) gave an oral presentation and received the Young Scientist Excellent Presentation Award.

Dr. Koshizuka's prize-winning title is "Analysis of carotenoid biosynthesis and function in Euglena gracilis", which analyzes the functions of major carotenoids in the microalgae Euglena. Dr. Koshizuka identified the carotenoid molecular species involved in the promotion of cell proliferation in a strain whose carotenoid synthesis was suppressed by genome editing, and clarified the possibility that carotenoid biosynthesis in Euglena is controlled by a mechanism different from transcriptional regulation. did. It is expected to be applied to biomass energy production technology in the future. This research is a joint research with our laboratory, RIKEN, and Euglena Co., Ltd.
