Educational Program with an Emphasis on Experience in the Field

As part of the 1st year life design exercises, the Faculty of Education provides opportunities for elementary school facility tours and class tours with the cooperation of Teikyo University Elementary School. This aims to acquire the basic manners and attitudes of visiting schools for future educational training and job hunting, and to cultivate the qualities and abilities to become teachers by seeing the learning of children with their own eyes. Students observe lessons from a certain analytical point of view and create reports based on their own discoveries and considerations.

A school internship is a program that allows students who want to be teachers to experience work at the actual school site, such as supporting the school life and learning activities of elementary and junior high school children, aside from educational training.

The objective is to practically learn the basics of the survey and to develop the ability to develop regional teaching materials while interacting with people regarding the development of teaching materials,. Each group sets themes such as traditional crafts, nature, history, tourism, environment, health, educational history, and isolated district education. Students do field work and develop teaching materials after 5 times preliminary survey in the university, then present it at the final stage.

The objective is to learn the cutting edge of theory and practice of educational research experientially. Students aim to develop their consideration by reconfirming the basic research methods such as how to write a dissertation (how to ask and develop questions, and reviews of previous research), participating in academic societies and research groups where the most advanced research discussions take place such as conferences of educational-related academic societies, and open classes at affiliated schools (Graduate School of Teacher Education, university elementary school) and other schools.

As a community contribution activity of Teikyo University, there is "TeikyoS Kids Club" organized by students and faculty members. This is a lesson for children, centered on the university faculty members and students, and open to the facilities and equipment of the university. We regularly hold various courses such as "Science", "Instrumental Exercise", "Swimming", "Basketball", and "Calligraphy" for children in Hachioji, Tama, and Hino City. It is a good opportunity to experience the practical teaching for students aiming to become teachers.
