On Saturday, November 1, 2025, students from the Action Club and Vixens Theatre drama club at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus provided technical support as actors and voice actors for a video produced by Yumiko Uchiyama, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department Department of Sport and Medical Science Faculty of Medical Technology Technology, as part of her research.
The two videos provided technical support are "Research to help children take a positive approach to preventive dentistry," which is part of the project "Pre-hospital Preparation: Parenting Senior Assistant Professor to encourage children who are reluctant to go to the doctor in a positive way" (JSPS Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C) Research Project 23K02315)" conducted by Lecturer Uchiyama, and "Research to help children take their medication in a positive way," which is part of a research project selected for the 2022 Teikyo University Institute of Advanced Science and Technology Incubation Grant.
In the "Research to help children take a positive approach to preventive dentistry" project, Action Club students played the hero, Fluoride Man, and the villain, Mutans Streptococcus, in a video that told the story of how fluoride protects teeth from bacteria. Students from the drama club provided the voice of the main child and narrated the message for parents. In the "Research to help children take medicines with a positive attitude" project, Action Club students played the hero, Medicine Man, and the roles of viruses and bacteria that damage the body.
In preparation for filming both videos, the Action Club held detailed meetings to consider techniques combinations and how to present them through camerawork, as well as costume fittings. The Drama Club revised the script numerous times while imagining the children's emotions and reactions, and adjusted their voices to suit the characters. For the narration, they practiced repeatedly to ensure their voices sounded gentle and comforting to the parents. Students from both clubs performed their roles with the hope that "the work they have devoted themselves to will be of some help to the children, even if only in a small way."
Once completed, this video will be used in kindergartens, nursery schools, and local child-rearing support facilities, and it is expected to help spread activities that encourage children to approach medical care in a positive manner.
