On Friday, August 22, 2025, the award ceremony for the "30th All-Japan High School and University Calligraphy Exhibition" (sponsored by the Japan Center for Global Education Institute and the Yomiuri Shimbun), which determines the grand prize winner for student calligraphy, was held at the Osaka International House Center (Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture). The Teikyo University Calligraphy Club, which placed 7th in the university division, was presented with a certificate. Also recognized for winning the Grand Prize, Mana Kuriyama (4th year, Faculty of Liberal Arts), received a certificate and a commemorative gift. In response to the results, Teikyo University Calligraphy Club Director Junya Fukui commented, "The group award is a source of pride for the entire team, including Kuriyama, who won the Grand Prize. That's why our 7th-place finish shows us the hurdle we must overcome: maximizing individual strengths as the team's overall strength. We will strive to achieve at least one higher ranking next year." Captain Otobuchi Koko (3rd year, Faculty of Liberal Arts), who received the award on behalf of the club, commented, "I saw everyone's dignified presence from the stage. It warmed my heart to think that each and every one of us gathered here is a friend who has faced their own calligraphy and improved each other. I have been able to get this far because there were all of you who walked the same path. With this gratitude in my heart, I will continue to search for my own calligraphy." Also, Kuriyama, who won the Grand Prize in her final year, expressed her joy, saying, "I am very happy to receive the award I had always aimed for at my last high school exhibition, and that my hard work has paid off in this way. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the teachers who have guided me and everyone who has supported me."
After the award ceremony, a calligraphy performance was planned by university students to commemorate the 30th holding of this exhibition, and students from Shikoku University and Teikyo University, who had performed calligraphy clubs at the recent Osaka-Kansai Expo, took part. Our university's calligraphy club performed two pieces, which were met with thunderous applause from the audience.
We appreciate your continued support for our university's calligraphy club.
