Shogo Obara (2nd year student, Faculty of Medical Technology) and Ayuka Ehara (3rd year student, Faculty of Education), who are members of the Vixens Theatre drama club at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus, provided technical support as actors and voice actors for a video being produced by Yumiko Uchiyama, Assistant Professor Faculty of Medical Technology Department of Sport and Medical Science as part of her research.
Ohara and Ehara appeared as actors and voice actors in a video to help children prepare for pediatric appointments. The video is part of Assistant Professor Pediatrics 's research project, "Research on support for consultation preparation to encourage children who are reluctant to visit medical institutions to visit positively (Consideration of inclusive support methods connecting primary education (childcare), families, and medical facilities)," which was selected for the 2022 Advanced Research Institute Incubation Grant. The video features a doll exploring Pediatrics outpatient clinic, explaining the items found in the examination room, the examination process, and tips for a successful consultation. Ohara voiced the Pediatrics and narrator, while Ehara voiced the nurse, receptionist, and doll. They practiced their skills with advice on examination assistance techniques from faculty at Teikyo Senior Nursing School, and then filmed the video at Pediatrics clinic at our School of Medicine 's affiliated hospital. The preparation time was limited as the students concentrated on sharing scripts and holding meetings for production over the summer vacation period, but on the day of filming they were able to make a video that the children enjoyed by making use of the skills they have demonstrated on stage, with narration in a voice that puts children at ease and acting that suited the cast.
The two took on the activity with a positive attitude, saying, "If what I'm doing can help someone," It is hoped that this video will be used in a variety of settings, including childcare facilities, local child-rearing support facilities, and medical facilities, so that children who watch it will not be afraid of visiting Pediatrics and will have a positive attitude toward visiting.
