Hachioji CampusFaculty of Education Professor Orchestrates Engaging Music Seminar for First Graders in Fuchu

In a delightful convergence of melody and education, Professor Noriko Tazaki, from the Faculty of Education Department of Elementary Education at Teikyo University, orchestrated a captivating seminar for first graders at Fuchu Municipal Shinmachi Elementary School in Tokyo. The seminar, held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, was a harmonious blend of musical appreciation and interactive participation. The program featured an "appreciation" segment where the young participants listened to music, followed by a "participatory" phase designed to deepen their connections through shared musical experiences.
One of the highlights of the event was the ingenious use of "Do-Re-Mi Pipe" and "Do-Re-Mi Pad," simple yet effective instruments that allowed the children to actively engage in creating sounds. The performance and workshop not only entertained but also provided a hands-on experience, fostering a deeper understanding of music. During the all-hands chorus, the children showcased their linguistic and musical dexterity by singing the same song in both English and Japanese versions. The lively atmosphere was punctuated by the children's enthusiastic singing, accompanied by expressive physical movements, creating a memorable experience for all involved.
The seminar's conclusion was marked by a warm ambiance, with the school principal, homeroom teachers, and music department instructors observing the event with pride. Professor Tazaki's initiative not only brought the joy of music to the first graders but also exemplified the power of education to transcend traditional boundaries.
