Fukuoka CampusFostering Dialogue: Fukuoka Campus Students Contribute Perspectives to Omuta City Council

In an ongoing effort to bridge the generational gap in municipal decision-making, Teikyo University's Fukuoka Campus hosted an opinion exchange meeting on Saturday, November 11, 2023. This collaborative initiative, underway since fiscal 2021, responds to the Omuta City Council's call to incorporate the voices of the younger generation into local governance. Representatives from the Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology, 12 students from each department, joined forces with 11 members of the Omuta City Council for a constructive dialogue. Divided into two groups, they delved into topics such as "A Zoo Worth Visiting," "Promoting Information about Omuta City," and "Perspectives on Work."

Post-event reflections from participating students emphasized the importance of tangible actions in response to their insights. "I want the city council to not just consider the opinions they have put forward but to show them in some way," remarked one student, highlighting the desire for visible impact. Another expressed the rarity of such experiences, stating, "I couldn't participate because it's not something I get to experience very often." The session left a meaningful impression on the participants, with some expressing gratitude for the opportunity. "I'm glad I did," shared one student, encapsulating the sentiment of a day well spent. This interaction marks a significant stride in Teikyo University's commitment to community engagement. The Fukuoka Campus is poised to maintain an active role in fostering dialogue between students and local authorities, cultivating a symbiotic relationship between the university and the community it serves.
