Hachioji CampusAkutagawa Prize Winner, Professor Hitoshi Tsuji, Guides Aspiring Writers at Teikyo University in Virtual Seminar

Teikyo University, Japan - In an extraordinary online session, esteemed Specially Appointed Professor Hitoshi Tsuji, an Akutagawa Prize-winning author, commenced the inaugural lecture of the "Creative Writing / Nekketsu Tsuji Seminar" on Monday, April 17, 2023. This unique seminar, tailored for Teikyo University students with literary aspirations, saw five exceptional individuals selected from a pool of nearly 40 applicants, based on their compelling 30-page manuscript submissions. Despite a staggering time difference of over seven hours between Hachioji Campus and Professor Tsuji's location in France, both students and professor united in this virtual forum. Initial jitters swiftly gave way to an atmosphere of revelation and introspection as Professor Tsuji commended the students on their submissions. Through probing questions, participants delved into the heart of their creative endeavors, gradually peeling back layers of self-discovery.

One participant reflected, "I sensed a profound inquiry into my very being. Preparing for the next assignment, I believe I can articulate my thoughts with greater clarity than ever before." Another remarked on the seminar's poignant exploration of life and mortality, stating, "It provides a fresh perspective on how to grapple with the essence of existence." The sentiment that writing is meant to be shared reverberated strongly among attendees. "Having toiled away in solitary pursuit of my craft, meeting fellow writers in this seminar has been invigorating," shared another participant. This seminar, set to recur eight times annually, will now incorporate a new dynamic. Each session will see professors contribute their own handwritten essays, fostering a collaborative environment for critical analysis and collective growth. Teikyo University remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing an enriching educational experience for its students.
