Hachioji CampusTeikyo University's Ekiden Team Bonds with Yasaki Elementary School

In a heartening reunion after three years, Teikyo University's Ekiden Relay Team came face-to-face with the students of Yasaki Elementary School for an interactive session. This exchange program, an integral part of community engagement, aims to inspire the young learners through interactions and lectures with the dedicated members of the Ekiden Relay Team.

Accompanied by Ekiden Relay Team Director Takayuki Nakano, along with team members Wakatsuki Wataru, Shota Nishiwaki, Takuma Hidaka, Sho Fukuda, Hiroki Yamanaka, and Akihiro Shimada, the visit was timely, given the upcoming long-distance running record event at Yasaki Elementary School. The day featured lively activities including laps around the schoolyard, a mid-distance race between representative students and team members, and an engaging Q&A session. The atmosphere was electric with enthusiasm from start to finish. The 6th graders also had the opportunity to hear about career education, as the Ekiden Team members shared their own experiences and insights on achieving goals. This was followed by a session on the basics of the Hakone Ekiden, where the 6th graders eagerly asked questions, from the joys of running to daily routines and race strategies. The session also included hands-on experiences, allowing students to handle the baton used in competitions. To cap off the day, the team and students came together for a spirited baton relay, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere throughout the exchange. This reunion not only ignited the students' enthusiasm for long-distance running but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and shared passion for the sport. The event showcases Teikyo University's dedication to community engagement and nurturing the potential of future athletes.
