Hachioji CampusTeaching for All: Experts Share Strategies for Responding to Children's Diversity at Educational Forum

Teikyo University's Graduate School of Teacher Education hosted its 14th annual forum on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at its Hachioji Campus. The forum, titled "Looking at Children," aimed to showcase the university's educational practices and research results and provide a platform for educators, university students, and graduate students to discuss the expertise of teachers who can respond to each child's diversity.

More than 80 participants attended the event, which was divided into three main parts. The first part featured a keynote speech by Yoshihiro Tanaka, a professor at Teikyo Heisei University, who discussed measures to improve the expertise of teachers involved in special support education. The second part was a group presentation by students of the Graduate School of Teacher Education on the expertise of teachers who can respond to each child's diversity, based on Mikinosuke Nishikawa's book, "Why I, a developmentally challenged child who wanted to die, could reform myself" (Jiji Press, 2022). The third part was a panel discussion on the theme of the forum, featuring elementary school principals, university professors, and doctors, including Dr. Nishikawa and his mother. During the event, participants engaged in a lively exchange of opinions from a variety of perspectives. One attendee expressed their gratitude, saying, "I could see the faces of many children, parents, and teachers as I listened to the discussion. I was able to think about what I can do to promote special support, and it was a very meaningful forum. I wish more educators and students could have attended.” Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers of the event were able to successfully hold the forum, following last year's implementation. The Graduate School of Teacher Education Forum aims to continue to contribute to the development of education and society by promoting educational practices and research results.
