Hachioji Campussummer science class for children was held

On Monday, August 1, 2022, the “Summer Science Class for Children” was held at Teikyo University Hachioji Campus. This project has been held since 1997 at the request of the Hachioji City Board of Education, and is now in its 25th year. The aim is to raise children's interest in nature and their ability to think scientifically in Hachioji City Elementary Schools. Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, the event was held online last year and canceled the year before last, but this year it was held face-to-face for the first time in a while.

In collaboration with the Hachioji City Elementary School Science Education Center, on the day of the event, 81 children were divided into groups on the theme of "The Head of Center of Living Things: What is DNA?" I worked on the experiment with Professor Koichi Mura and the supervisor. DNA was carefully collected from puffer fish milt, sucked up with a dropper, placed in a small bottle, and taken home as a result of the experiment. At first, the students worked while listening to the instructor's advice, but gradually improved and some children collected large amounts of DNA. We will continue to provide opportunities to increase interest in science for many children.
