八王子キャンパス大塲ゼミがグローバル・スタディーズ演習での研究成果を展示しました

From June 15 (Wed) to July 4 (Mon), 2022, at the Teikyo University Museum Museum Plaza, our university Faculty of Language StudiesDepartment of Language Studies Associate Professor The Asayo Otsuku Seminar exhibited the results of the Global Studies Seminar.

Associate Professor 's Global Studies Seminar researches the problems faced by children in developing countries related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This research project was initiated by a student with the theme of "Child Labor in the World - What We Can Do Now". Due to the postponement of study abroad for all students in the Faculty of Faculty of Language Studies due to the coronavirus pandemic, the seminar classes that began in the second semester of the university attracted students' interest in various global issues. It was decided that "child labor" would be taken up. The students researched the literature and conducted interviews with ACE, a domestic non-profit organization that tackles child labor issues in developing countries. Starting in the second half of 2021, during the spring break, we created a proposal for the exhibition, and prepared for the exhibition while receiving specific advice from the general museum. In April 2022, the seminar students divided roles for each group and accelerated preparations. In addition, when conducting interviews with ACE, the students themselves were involved from the point of requesting directly, and the interviews were conducted online. Through the interviews, the students were able to deepen their understanding of the child labor problem and find clues to its solution. At the exhibition, the interviews were broadcasted, and in the final corner of the exhibition, a space was set up for the display of "Tell me what you can do" to gather the opinions of the visitors, soliciting the opinions of the visitors on the issue of child labor. . The comments included how the products around us are manufactured, where they are from, what kind of labor environment they are produced in, and how they would like to see fair trade products. The content that made visitors feel a change in the viewpoint of the visitors who encountered the exhibition of the Oba seminar was lined up.

Through this exhibition, the students learned about the importance of trying to understand the current situation on their own, and learned that there are things they can do on their own, such as making donations, fundraising, purchasing fair-trade products, and sharing and disseminating what they have learned. I noticed. In addition, as a result of this exhibition, the students said, "Pursuing the background of the problem, systematic preparations until the exhibition is completed, the importance and sense of responsibility to see it through to the end, and the objectiveness to be seen by others. "Achievement through teamwork," etc. He said that in order to prepare something for someone to see, including those who are not yet interested in the SDGs, it is important to have the ability to communicate, as a way of presenting it to the other person. did. Associate Professor said, "Students not only investigate global issues of common interest, but it is also important to share knowledge, which is created by disseminating what they have researched. I would be happy if it was an 'exchange of knowledge' for us." There were comments from students of other faculties and people from outside the university at the exhibition, and it was said that it was stimulating for the students. Associate Associate Professor said that he was happy that through the exhibition, he was able to get a glimpse of the diverse talents that each student possesses, which cannot be seen through classroom lectures alone.

The spread of COVID-19 and restrictions on movement have changed the activities of students. Testimonials from experienced students prove it. Teikyo University will continue to support student research activities, including SDGs.
