"65th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Medical and Fungal Sciences / Academic Meeting" and "Fungal Disease Forum 2021" jointly held at Dai-ichi Hotel Tokyo (Minato-ku, Tokyo) on October 29th (Fri) and 30th (Sat), 2021. Koichi Makimura, Deputy Head of Center the Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology, received the "Japan Society for Medical and Fungal Society Award". The Japanese Society of Medical and Fungal Sciences has greatly contributed to the development of medical and mycological research as a specialized society on pathogenic fungi and fungal diseases. This award-winning conference has been awarded for many years, including a paper on "Medical management of health-impairing fungi and related microorganisms and research on biological and ecological understanding" and the discovery of Candida auris, a new species described in 2009. This is due to the recognition of its contribution to medical and fungal research.
At the award ceremony, Deputy Head of Center Makimura said, "We appreciate the results of the research that we have promoted with the support of many people, including the members of the Japanese Society of Medical and Fungal Sciences and those involved in Teikyo University. I am very honored to continue to do so, and I will continue to study further toward the deepening of medical mycology research and the implementation of education, and I would appreciate your continued support. " He expressed his gratitude to those around him and his motivation for the future, and renewed his ambition for medical mycology research.
