Educational Goals

The Graduate School of Economics, by its School Philosophy, aims to nurture advanced professionals who can be accepted in international society through academic and practical research in economics, business administration, and related fields from a global perspective in response to globalization and the advanced information society. The second semester of the doctoral program aims to nurture more advanced professionals and researchers by cultivating advanced research skills and a wealth of specialized knowledge.

Three policies of the Graduate School of Economics

The Graduate School of Economics aims to nurture advanced professionals capable of solving problems posed by globalization and the advanced information society through the acquisition of theory and knowledge of economics from a global perspective and practical research, as well as being accepted by the international community. The degree is awarded to those who have acquired the following abilities and have completed the prescribed credits.

  1. Acquire basic knowledge, advanced expertise, and research methods related to the theory and practice of each major.
  2. Conduct discussions and presentations based on the specialized knowledge acquired in this major.
  3. Students in the master's program may deepen their research on a specialized research theme and complete a specific research project as a master's thesis or collaborative thesis.
  4. Students in the doctoral program will acquire more advanced professional knowledge and research methods in their major field and will be able to present their research at academic conferences and complete their doctoral dissertations at a research level with a certain level of originality.

In order to acquire the competencies required for the conferral of a degree, the Graduate School of Economics shall organize its curriculum in accordance with the following policies:

  1. Students will acquire a wide range of fundamental knowledge through taking basic courses.
  2. Students will acquire advanced theoretical and practical expertise through specialized courses taught by professors with diverse backgrounds in industry, government, and academia.
  3. In the master's course, students will deepen their research on a specialized theme through exercises and complete a master's thesis or research on a specific subject. Furthermore, students will acquire discussion and presentation skills through practical training and joint research.
  4. In the doctoral program, students will receive not only individual guidance from their supervisors but also joint guidance from a thesis guidance committee, including a meeting for a thesis draft presentation.

The Graduate School of Economics and Management aims to nurture advanced professionals who are capable of solving real-world problems posed by globalization and the advanced information society, and who can be accepted in international society, through the acquisition of theory and knowledge from an international perspective in economics and business administration, as well as through practical research. The degree is awarded to those who have acquired the following abilities and have completed the prescribed credits.
In this way, the purpose of this graduate school is to acquire the ability to analyze various economic and management problems raised by the real world and find solutions, and therefore, first and foremost, interest in economic and social problems. You need to be aware of the problem. It is extremely important to study a wide range of fundamental knowledge in economics and business administration, as well as knowledge in related fields such as statistics, in undergraduate schools.
We are looking for candidates who have the following abilities and qualities acquired through studies at high schools:

  1. The student has a strong interest in issues that arise in economic society and a desire to learn more about these subjects.
  2. The student has acquired a broad range of fundamental knowledge in various fields of economics and business administration, as well as in different disciplines across humanities and sciences, and possesses the basic academic skills necessary for post-entry study.
  3. Students can examine things logically and from multiple perspectives and accurately express and communicate their thoughts.

Division of Economics

The Division of Economics, by the objectives of the Graduate School of Economics, has established the Economic Theory and Policy Course and the Tax Law (Certified Public Tax Accountant) Course in the Master's program, and through the acquisition of theory and knowledge of economics from an international perspective and practical research, aims to foster advanced professionals with the ability to solve economic problems posed by globalization and the advanced information society. The latter half of the doctoral program aims to cultivate advanced research skills and in-depth professional knowledge focusing on the Japanese and Asian economies and to nurture specialized researchers and more advanced professionals.

The Division of Economics aims to nurture advanced professionals capable of solving problems posed by globalization and the advanced information society through the acquisition of theory and knowledge of economics from a global perspective and practical research, as well as being accepted by the international community. The degree is awarded to those who have acquired the following abilities and have completed the prescribed credits.

Master's course

  1. Students in the Economic Theory and Policy course should have a broad knowledge of economic theory and the economies of Japan and other countries. In the Tax Law course, students should have a broad fundamental knowledge of tax law and tax policy.
  2. Students in the Economic Theory and Policy course should be able to possess methods and knowledge of specialized research on the current state of the Japanese and world economies. In the Tax Law (Certified Public Tax Accountant) Course, students should have expertise in theory and practice.
  3. Students in both courses should be able to deepen their research on a specialized subject and complete a specific research project as a master's thesis or a collaborative thesis.

Doctoral degree program

  1. Students who possess a higher level of expertise in each of the corresponding fields.
  2. Students who possess more advanced research skills and is able to present research results with a certain degree of originality at conferences.
  3. Students who should be able to complete their doctoral dissertation under the guidance of their academic advisor and the dissertation guidance committee.

Master's course

  1. Students will take basic courses to acquire the fundamental knowledge of each course.
  2. The program is taught by professors with diverse backgrounds from industry, government, and academia and includes specialized courses to acquire specialized theory and knowledge about the current state of various aspects of Japanese and foreign economies, as well as tax law and tax policy.
  3. Compulsory exercise courses are provided to deepen research on specialized topics and to complete a master's thesis or research on a specific theme.

Doctoral degree program

  1. Students will take lecture courses to acquire more advanced specialized knowledge in their major field of study.will be arranged to acquire more advanced specialized knowledge in the field of specialization.
  2. Students will take compulsory seminar courses to acquire more advanced research methods and to complete their doctoral thesis.

Division of Management

The Division of Management, by the objectives of the Graduate School of Economics, aims to nurture internationally competent professionals in business administration, accounting, informatics, tourism management, and related fields based on academic and practical research that responds to the advanced information society. The Master's Course aims to nurture highly-skilled professionals with specialized knowledge in business administration, accounting, informatics, and tourism management, based on a cross-disciplinary knowledge of humanities and sciences. The second semester of the doctoral program is designed to foster advanced research skills and rich, specialized expertise in business administration, accounting, informatics, and tourism management and to nurture more advanced professionals and researchers.

The Division of Management aims to nurture individuals who can become specialists or researchers in corporate management with problem-solving skills and the ability to develop plans and proposals. The degree is awarded to those who have acquired the following abilities and have completed the prescribed credits.

Master's course

  1. The student who have the ability to understand both theoretical and practical aspects of business management, accounting, informatics, and tourism management appropriate to the MBA course。
  2. Students who are able to conduct discussions and presentations utilizing their expertise in the relevant field according to their mastery of each course.
  3. Students in each course who can deepen their research on a specialized subject of study and complete a specific research project as a master's thesis or collaborative thesis.

Doctoral degree program

Division of Regional Economics and Policy

In line with the objectives of the Graduate School of Economics, the Division of Regional Economics and Policy aims to develop highly skilled professionals who can contribute to regional development by identifying and analyzing issues faced by urban and rural areas from a global and national perspective through the acquisition of theory and knowledge of regional economic policy and field research.

The Division of Regional Economics and Policy aims to nurture highly skilled professionals who can contribute to regional development by identifying and analyzing issues faced by urban and rural areas from a global and national perspective through the acquisition of theory and knowledge of regional economic policy and field research. The degree is awarded to those who have acquired the following abilities and have completed the prescribed credits.

  1. Students who have acquired extensive knowledge of the diversity of regions in the world and Japan, as well as the various problems in each region.
  2. Students who have specialized research methods and knowledge from regional economic policy studies regarding various problems faced by diverse regions in the world, including Japan.
  3. Students in the master's program who have deepen their research on a specialized research theme and complete a specific research project as a master's thesis or collaborative thesis.

In order to acquire the competencies required for the conferral of a degree, theDivision of Regional Economics and Policy shall organize its curriculum in accordance with the following policies:

  1. The courses are divided into basic subjects and specialized subjects. The students are required to acquire the fundamentals of regional economics and policy studies in the basic subjects.
  2. Through specialized courses taught by professors with diverse backgrounds in industry, government, and academia, students will learn analytical methods related to regional economics and policy, as well as specialized theory and knowledge.
  3. Students will deepen their research on a specialized topic through seminars and complete a master's thesis or research on a specific theme. Students will receive not only individual guidance from their academic advisor but also collaborative assistance through presentations of their thesis drafts and research projects.
