Educational Purposes

In line with the School Philosophy, the Graduate School of Languages and Cultures can outline various problems created by modern society by setting concrete problems from a wide range of culture and unbiased perspectives that are truly International perspectives, and language operation. The purpose is to develop human resources who can smoothly carry out intercultural communication.

Three policies of the Graduate School of Languages and Cultures

The Graduate School of Languages and Cultures handles the friction caused by the daily cross-cultural contact that is inevitably created by today's globalization with advanced language proficiency, and makes the modern multicultural society a truly rich and happy human environment, aiming to foster global citizenship. A degree will be awarded to those who have acquired the following abilities and have completed the prescribed credits.

Master's course

  1. You can improve the proficiency of the language you major in as much as possible and use it practically.
  2. You can acquire a wide range of cultural and historical knowledge that is effective for actual linguistic performance, and can smoothly carry out intercultural communication.
  3. You can work on the elucidation of highly complex historical or contemporary cultural phenomena, describe them objectively, discuss them with others, and compile them into a master's thesis.

Doctoral degree program

  1. You can further improve the advanced operational ability of the language you major in and operate it practically.
  2. You can acquire a wide range of cultural and historical knowledge that is effective for actual language operation, and smoothly carry out advanced intercultural communication.
  3. With a wide range of knowledge, you can analyze complex historical and contemporary cultural phenomena, objectively describe and present them, acquire the ability to conduct professional discussions, and compile them into a doctoral dissertation.

In order to acquire the abilities required for the awarding of a degree, the Graduate School of Languages and Cultures organizes the curriculum according to the following policy.

Master's course

  1. In addition to raising the proficiency of the language of major to a level that can be actually used in academic discussions, English is required as a global language in the world today.
  2. In order to cultivate a wide range of education and rich humanity to approach the diversity of today's culture, the theme of the dissertation is confirmed through one's own interests and subjects selected freely that confer academic introduction in a wide range of academic fields. 
  3. While seeking the guidance from a faculty member suitable for the theme, you conduct advanced and advanced research and prepare a master's thesis.

Doctoral degree program

  1. You raise the operational ability of the language you major to a level that can be used and announced in specialized discussions, and carry out research by operating it together with English as a global language.
  2. You understand the diversity of today's cultures, and pursue the theme of doctoral dissertations based on one's own interests against the background of a wide range of education and rich humanity acquired through academic studies in a wide range of academic fields.
  3. With the guidance from a faculty member suitable for the theme, you will carry out cutting-edge and advanced research with originality and complete a doctoral dissertation.

As a professional based on perfect humanity, and in today's society, you carry out unique and problematic research with international knowledge that transcends the language, culture and history of a single individual nation. You need the ability to accomplish it.
We are looking for new students with the following abilities and qualities through the above-mentioned studies at undergraduate schools.

  1. You have the ability to independently select research topics that can contribute to solving various problems created by the modern internationalized society from a broad perspective.
  2. You have the ability to carry out research while crossing an extremely large and wide range of related fields required by self-set research subjects.
  3. You have an attitude and language ability to strive for mutual understanding through dialogue with various people, both Japanese and foreigners, in order to find and solve problems.
