From October 11th (Sunday) to 19th (Monday), 2026, four students and faculty members from the Department of Radiological Technology, Faculty of Medical Technology, Teikyo University, participated in a radiation technology training program at I-Shou University (Kaohsiung City, Taiwan).
Our university and the Department of Radiology I-Shou University School of Medicine signed an academic exchange agreement (MOU) in March 2024, and this training program was conducted with the aim of further deepening academic and personnel exchanges between the two universities. The students visited I-Shou University 's main campus, the School of Medicine campus, and its affiliated hospital, E-DA Hospital, to learn about the educational and medical practices in Taiwan.
At the main campus, I participated in lectures on Taiwanese culture and society, deepening my understanding of Taiwan by experiencing the local language, food culture, and lifestyle. At School of Medicine campus, in addition to lectures and practical training on abdominal ultrasound examinations, I participated in an image analysis practical training using AI on abdominal ultrasound images, learning about ultrasound examination techniques and the latest technologies.
Furthermore, at E-DA Hospital, the students toured the diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy departments, gaining a deeper understanding of Taiwan's healthcare delivery system and the role of radiological technologist. Experiencing a healthcare system and operational procedures different from those in Japan was an invaluable experience for the students.
During the training period, numerous opportunities were provided for interaction between students from our university and students from I-Shou University. Through classes and extracurricular activities, they deepened their relationships, fostering friendships that transcended national and cultural differences, and providing a valuable opportunity to broaden their international perspectives.
On the final day at the main campus, we participated in the 36th anniversary event of I-Shou University. A variety of performances were presented by students from all over the world and regions, and our students also participated as part of the festivities. It was an opportunity to deepen our understanding of different cultures and to truly appreciate the significance of international exchange.
Through this training program, the participating students learned about the similarities and differences between Taiwanese and Japanese medical practices and cultures, and recognized the importance of an international perspective required of radiological technologist. Our university will continue to deepen its collaboration with I-Shou University and actively promote international exchange through education and research.
