A student from the Department of Department of Clinical Laboratory Science received an award of excellence at the 10th Japan One Health Science Conference.

On September 12, 2026 (Saturday), at the 10th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japan One Health Science Society held at the Kioicho Campus of Josai International University, Honoka Kaneda (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology), Zensaku Tanaka (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology), and Rin Hiraga (4th year, Faculty of Medical Technology) received awards for outstanding achievement.
The three students are working on their graduation research as part of a six-person team under the guidance of Kana Miyata, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department Department of Clinical Laboratory Science Faculty of Medical Technology Teikyo University. Their main research theme is "The Interrelationship Between Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts and Cancer Cells in Lung Adenocarcinoma."
Ms. Kaneda presented her research entitled "Investigation of the Significance of the Appearance of Activated Fibroblasts in Cytological Specimens," which clarified the relationship between the appearance of cancer-associated fibroblasts in cytological specimens and the malignancy of cancer. Ms. Tanaka presented her research entitled "Investigation of the Relationship between Lipids in Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts and the Degree of Cancer Differentiation in Lung Adenocarcinoma," which examined the relationship between the appearance of lipid-containing cancer-associated fibroblasts and the degree of tumor differentiation in lung adenocarcinoma. Ms. Hiraga presented her research entitled "Improvement of the Enzyme Antibody Double Staining Method," which proposed a new improved method for detecting lipid-containing cancer-associated fibroblasts. These presentations were highly evaluated, leading to this award.
The three award recipients stated their future aspirations, saying, "Through this presentation, we learned the joy of research. We want to continue to actively participate in research activities." Great things are expected from all six of them in the future.
