The calligraphy club participated in the Hino City Family Education Class.

On Saturday, September 12, 2026, the Hino City Family Education Class, part of Hino City's family education promotion program, was held at Hino City Takiai Elementary School (Hino City, Tokyo). The Teikyo University Calligraphy Club conducted a calligraphy performance and a parent-child workshop. The Hino City Family Education Class is a program that promotes family education by conducting learning activities aimed at improving parents' educational abilities, and is implemented by entrusting its implementation to the PTAs of Hino City's elementary and junior high schools. This time, the event was held with the aim of deepening interaction between parents and children through a shared experience and improving communication at home. The Teikyo University Calligraphy Club's participation in Hino City events, including the "Hino Shinsengumi Festival," led to a proposal from the Hino City Takiai Elementary School PTA, resulting in this event.

On the day of the event, Junya Fukui, Associate Professor Department of Japanese Cultures and Director of the Calligraphy Club at our Faculty of Liberal Arts, gave a lecture titled "Why is writing by hand important in the age of AI?" In this modern age of increasing digitalization and the spread of AI, he spoke to the participating parents and children about the meaning of writing by hand and the importance of the act of writing. Following the lecture, the Calligraphy Club gave a calligraphy performance. The participating children were amazed by the powerful performance, which they rarely have the opportunity to see, and watched intently.
In the parent-child workshop, themed "Give a single character to someone special," participants chose a character while thinking of the person they wanted to give it to, and practiced while receiving advice on how to hold the brush and stroke from club members. Afterwards, they each wrote their chosen character on a large sheet of paper, completing a single artwork together. Some participants were seen taking their practice pieces home as souvenirs, making it an opportunity for parents and children to become familiar with calligraphy and experience the joy of writing characters by hand.

Going forward, the calligraphy club will continue to strive to create cultural value through calligraphy and contribute to the local community, deepening its cooperation with Hino City and other local areas while engaging in various cultural activities.
