A student from Graduate School of Medical Care and Technology received the Outstanding Presentation Award at the 45th Kanto Medical Mycology Conference.

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the 45th Kanto Medical Mycology Conference held at the Keio Plaza Hotel (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo), Akira Maruyama (3rd year doctoral student in Division of Clinical Laboratory Medicine School Graduate School of Medical Care and Technology) received the Outstanding Presentation Award. This conference, themed "Walking with Fungi," was held as an academic meeting in the Kanto region, bringing together physicians and researchers from a wide range of fields related to fungi, including basic medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Dermatology.

Ms. Maruyama presented her findings on "The Current Status of Candida auris in Japan." This research analyzed the positive rate of Candida auris, an emerging multidrug-resistant yeast, based on clinical specimens submitted to registered hygiene laboratories in Japan, and examined trends in antifungal drug susceptibility using domestic clinical isolates preserved at the Institute for Medical Mycology of our university. Her research, which clarified trends in the positive rate and antifungal drug susceptibility of Candida auris in Japan and demonstrated the importance of continuous epidemiological surveillance, led to this award. We will continue to promote research that contributes to understanding the incidence of medical mycoses and trends in drug resistance.
