From Friday, May 15, to Sunday, May 17, 2026, Koichi Makimura, Deputy Director of the Institute of Medical Mycology at Teikyo University and Professor, delivered a presentation at the public symposium held as part of the “70th Anniversary Conference of the Japanese Society for Mycology” at the Kasuga Auditorium, University of Tsukuba (Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture).
This symposium was held as part of the commemorative events for the 70th anniversary of the Mycological Society of Japan, targeting citizens, junior and senior high school students, and university students, with the theme of "Fungi that spread unnoticed by humans." Many participants attended the event and deepened their understanding of the latest knowledge and fascinating aspects of fungi.
Professor Makimura gave a lecture on medical fungi at a public symposium on the 16th (Saturday), introducing infectious diseases and related research. The program also included a commemorative lecture and a panel discussion, in which researchers, including Deputy Head of Center of the National Museum of Nature and Science, Takeshi Hosoya, and members of the Tsukuba University Noh and Kyogen Research Society exchanged opinions from a scientific perspective on the various mushrooms that appear in the Kyogen play, "Kusabira" (Mushroom).
Going forward, we will continue to contribute to promoting understanding of infectious diseases, including medical mycoses, and to the advancement of academic research through the dissemination of research findings and academic exchange.
