A lecture on social innovation by Ms. Kiho Shimamura of the specified non-profit organization Colorbath was held atHachioji Campus
On Tuesday, July 7, 2026,at Teikyo University (Hachioji Campus), we hosted a social innovation lecture aimed at fostering entrepreneurship. Ms. Kiho Shimamura, Project Manager at the nonprofit organization Colorbath, was invited as a guest speaker for the “Theory of Innovation” course taught by our university’s Faculty of Economics Department of Business Administration Associate Professor Kohei Sanbyo.
After graduating from university, Ms. Shimamura joined a major consulting firm and worked on sustainability projects for public institutions, including human rights, the environment, and biodiversity. Since 2024, she has been involved in Colorbath's Africa/Malawi project as a pro bono volunteer, and currently oversees a wide range of tasks as the head of the project division.
In her lecture, Ms. Shimamura spoke about her career after graduating from university, the experiences she gained through managing a project in Malawi, and the significance of tackling social issues in a different culture. Three university student interns working with Colorbath also took the stage, sharing their experiences about their overseas activities, the importance of taking on challenges, and balancing them with job hunting. Over 400 students attended the event, mainly those preparing for job hunting or aspiring to start their own businesses, and they listened attentively to Ms. Shimamura and the university student interns' discussions on international activities and career development. During the Q&A session, there were many active questions about the attitudes necessary for working overseas and the mindset required when taking on challenges. Students who participated shared comments such as, "I became interested in overseas countries and learned the importance of going to the actual location," and "Seeing university students my age taking on challenges made me want to try something new myself." It was a valuable opportunity for students to think about their future careers and how to approach social issues.
Our university will continue to promote collaboration with society and industry-government-academia partnerships, and will strive to cultivate individuals who possess an international perspective and are capable of tackling social challenges.
