Dr. Shun Tamura, a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Medical Mycology, Teikyo University, received the Outstanding Presentation Award at the 37th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Clinical Microbiology.
At the 37th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Clinical Microbiology, held from February 13th (Fri) to 15th (Sun), 2026 at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall (Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture), Dr. Shun Tamura, a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Medical Mycology, Teikyo University, received the Outstanding Presentation Award.
This academic conference brought together researchers and healthcare professionals in the field of clinical microbiology to deepen discussions on the latest research findings and practices in clinical settings. The conference was held under the theme of "Further strengthening the bond between clinical practice (medicine) and microbiological testing (professionals)."
On the day of the event, the latest knowledge was shared and active discussions took place through lectures, symposiums, and workshops. Researcher Tamura presented a study titled "Comparison of susceptibility testing of AMPH-B in seven Candida species using microliquid dilution, agar plate dilution, and disk diffusion methods." AMPH-B (amphotericin B) is a major antifungal drug used to treat infections caused by pathogenic fungi such as Candida and Aspergillus. In this study, three existing drug susceptibility testing methods for AMPH-B (microliquid dilution, agar plate dilution, and disk diffusion) were compared and evaluated, and their respective characteristics and usefulness were verified. This result was highly praised, and the researcher received the Outstanding Presentation Award. The results of this research are expected to contribute to the selection of appropriate treatment methods for fungal infections.
We will continue to promote research that contributes to the understanding of infectious diseases, including medical mycoses, and the development of treatments.
