On Saturday, June 20, 2026, the first "Inquiry-Based Reflection" training session, co-hosted by the NITS Teikyo University Center and the Graduate Graduate School of Teacher Education at Teikyo University, was held at Hachioji Campus of Teikyo University.
Reflection is an approach that involves looking back on one's own experiences and practices, and re-examining the process and way of thinking, in order to gain new insights and learn. This training was conducted with the aim of deepening participants' understanding of educational practice by experiencing inquiry-based reflection, which involves looking at one's own educational practice from multiple perspectives while engaging in dialogue with each other and learning from each other's ideas. 51 people, including current teachers and education professionals, participated in the event.
In the first part, participants engaged in inquiry-based reflection work, watching a video about the challenges faced by newly graduated teachers and sharing their opinions in groups to reflect on how their own experiences and values influence their interactions with others. In the second part, Yuta Aoyama, school leader and principal of Himitsukichi Mori Gakuen, an alternative school that practices Educational Philosophy and methods different from traditional school education, introduced his current activities and the reflection efforts he practiced during his time as a teacher. Following this, a dialogue was held between Associate Professor Daisuke Machishi of the Graduate School of Teacher Education at this university and Mr. Aoyama. Based on questions from the participants, they discussed the significance of reflection, the importance of dialogue with others, and the importance of recording and reflecting on one's own practices. Participants shared comments such as, "It gave me an opportunity to re-examine my own values and views on teaching," and "I gained new insights through dialogue with participants from diverse backgrounds," making it an opportunity to deepen learning through reflection.
