On Saturday, April 25, 2026, "Shin Marathon Q" was held at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus. This event was conducted as an expanded version of the courses "Improving Questioning Skills" and "Improving Communication Skills" offered at Hachioji Campus.
Shin Marathon Q provides students with experiential learning about the importance of advance preparation, time management, and team building through a series of programs including bamboo shoot digging, cooking practice, and a poster session. On the day of the event, students were divided into 17 teams, announced in the morning, and challenged to dig bamboo shoots within the stipulated time, with students who had never met each other before working together toward a single goal.
The use of smartphones during class was prohibited, and students had to research how to find and dig bamboo shoots and prepare the necessary tools and clothing in advance. With limited information and time, the students worked together, sharing roles and responsibilities, and gradually developed a sense of unity as a team.
In the afternoon, the six teams that actually dug up edible bamboo shoots proceeded to the cooking class, while the teams that did not proceed to the cooking class used the same time to work on a poster project with the theme of a "cozy campus. Professor During the cooking practice, three bamboo shoot dishes were prepared by Mr. Mirai Hiratsuka, Assistant Director of Japanese Cuisine at Hattori Nutrition College Senior Assistant Professor. When all participants tasted the dishes, they all commented on how delicious they were. In the poster session that followed, specific and diverse proposals for enhancing campus coziness were presented and a lively exchange of ideas took place.
The Shin Marathon Q aims to nurture the ability to think independently, take action, and collaborate with others through hands-on experiences. We will continue to implement initiatives to enhance students' independence and communication skills from a place of learning.
