From April 21st (Tue) to 23rd (Thu), 2026, Medtec Japan 2026 was held at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo), where Professor Koichi Suzuki of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Science Faculty of Medical Technology Teikyo University, and Professor Hiroki Otani of the Department of Department of Radiological Technology exhibited a booth in collaboration with Itabashi-ku.
This event brought together domestic and international medical device suppliers and manufacturers involved in the design and manufacture of medical devices, and attracted 15,335 visitors over three days. This time, we exhibited jointly with Itabashi Ward, which aims to support industrial development for companies within the ward, as a research institution that promotes entrepreneurship support and medical-engineering collaboration in the medical and healthcare fields.
At our university's exhibition booth, Professor Suzuki showcased the "CRADAR-i Disposable Rapid Nucleic Acid Diagnostic Kit," which enables rapid and convenient nucleic acid identification. This kit can identify nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) from all kinds of organisms, including pathogens and agricultural products. Unlike expensive and time-consuming methods such as PCR, it provides a method that can be used anywhere by anyone in a short amount of time. This product will play a particularly important role in infectious disease control in areas with underdeveloped medical infrastructure.
Professor Otani also exhibited a "radiation protection cream" designed for a wide range of radiation environments, including nuclear power plant workers, medical institutions, and the general public. Because it can be easily applied to the skin, this radiation protection cream aims to provide physical and psychological relief from invisible radiation. Using barium sulfate as the radiation shielding material, it is less heavy and less expensive than the commonly used lead, and its applications beyond cream are also attracting attention.
This booth attracted visitors from domestic and international medical device and chemical product manufacturers, as well as medical professionals, who actively exchanged ideas on how to implement the exhibited technologies in society. Going forward, our university will continue to actively return its intellectual property to society and support researchers' research activities.
