SDGs-related results presentation held at International Japanese Studies Seminar II,Hachioji Campus

On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, a presentation on the results of the SDGs was given at the "International Japanese Studies Seminar II" taught by Professor Jun Nishioka of the Department Department of Global Japanese Studies Faculty of Languages and Cultures, Teikyo University. The aim of this lecture was not just to learn about the SDGs as knowledge, but to take the achievement of the goals as a personal matter and to design and implement feasible actions within the university to implement them in society.
In the presentations, each group shared their research findings, results, and future proposals for three themes: "Reducing electricity consumption from staircase use," "Reducing plastic bottle use through visibility," and "Promoting multilingualism on campus to contribute to the SDGs." Many opinions were presented from the students' perspective, such as, "Posting posters alone was not very effective in discouraging elevator use, so I felt there was room for improvement," "To reduce plastic bottle use, we need to improve campus-wide infrastructure, such as installing water stations," and "The biggest problem international students had with the lack of multilingualism on campus was course registration. What if we created a course registration flow in English or Chinese?" This provided a valuable opportunity to consider translating the SDGs into practical action, rather than just abstract ideals. Finally, Professor Nishioka commented to the students, "While interest in the SDGs seems to have declined compared to the past, it is important to emphasize once again the importance of the SDGs as they show us a path to resolving issues that are deeply connected to the future of the world. Based on this idea, I have been working with you in this seminar with the hope that by engaging in SDG-related activities in our everyday lives, we can bring about behavioral change in each and every student. I hope that you will continue to be aware that the SDGs are a matter of choices that affect your own future."
Teikyo University will continue to strengthen its learning and practice related to the SDGs and promote the development of human resources who will take the initiative in solving social issues.
