Mr. Shinji Sato was invited as a guest to hold a joint Japanese class on the theme of "Life, Travel, Encounters" atHachioji Campus

On Friday, January 9, 2026, a special lecture entitled "Life, Travel, Encounters" was held at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus, featuring Senior Staff Senior Assistant Professor Shinji Sato, Director of the Japanese Language Program at Princeton University. This special lecture was held as a joint class for the compulsory Japanese language courses "Japanese IVA," "Japanese IIB," and "Japanese IVB," and was attended by international students and faculty from Center for Japanese language Education.
The class began with a talk by Mr. Sato on the theme of "The Various People I Met in Various Places." After working in Japan, Mr. Sato went on to Graduate School in the United States. He currently teaches at Princeton University while also giving lectures on language education and Japanese language education around the world, making him a globally active figure. The participants seemed captivated as he shared stories about the people he met while traveling around the world. The following group discussion focused on the theme of "Encounters that have influenced my life," with participants sharing various stories from their own backgrounds, including friends from their home countries, people they met in Japan, family, and teachers. Finally, Mr. Sato spoke about "What does life, travel, and encounters mean to me? A message to international students." This provided a valuable opportunity for participants to reflect on their own experiences and reaffirm the importance of encounters in life.
