From Tuesday, October 14th to Friday, October 17th, 2025, the 10th installment of the "World Cuisine" project - Onigiri Action Edition - was held at Godereccho, the student cafeteria on Teikyo University's Itabashi Campus.
This project is based on the concept of "making globalization a part of everyday life" and sells representative dishes from around the world as an event menu for a limited time. This time, in connection with the Onigiri Action carried out by the non-profit organization Table For Two (TFT), we sold "Cambodian cuisine" centered around onigiri, as well as "South Korea cuisine," which was well-received in the 9th installment of the same project -South Korea Edition.
Since last year, the University's Global Initiative Office and Faculty of Economics Department of Economics Senior Assistant Professor seminars of Lisa Nagai have collaborated on this project. This year, the theme was Cambodia, as the students of the seminar participated in the "Samurai Curry Project," a practical internship program in Cambodia. In addition, an exchange event was held at Global Initiative Office with the aim of further deepening cooperation with the Nagai Seminar. In addition to an introduction of activities by the promotion office, the event included an exchange of opinions on the internationalization of the university and a tasting of the "World Cuisine" project, providing a meaningful opportunity to deepen mutual exchange and raise awareness of future collaboration and international initiatives.
The Onigiri Action is an initiative where by posting a photo of onigiri on social media (Instagram, X, Facebook) or on a special website, a donation equivalent to five school lunches (100 yen) will be made for each photo posted, allowing children in Africa and Asia to receive school lunches. In order to promote this initiative at our university, we sold onigiri set meals during the period and called for participation in the action, and a survey showed that approximately 30 people (approximately 65% of survey respondents) participated. A total of 434 meals of the event menu were sold over the four days, and many people enjoyed them.
We will continue to widely communicate our university's internationalization efforts through international events such as the "World Cuisine" project, so that students can feel closer to globalization.
