The "Summer Children's Science Class" was held at Teikyo University's Hachioji Campus on Friday, August 1, 2025. This event is part of a community contribution initiative that has been carried out since 1997 at the request of the Hachioji City Board of Education in collaboration with the Hachioji City Elementary School Science Education Center, and this year marks its 28th anniversary.
On the day, 53 children from Hachioji City elementary schools participated in Teikyo University Institute of Medical Mycology under the theme of "What are genes (DNA), the blueprint of living things?", and under the guidance of Professor Koichi Makimura, deputy Head of Center of the Teikyo University Medical Mycology Research Center. The children extracted DNA from pufferfish milt, sucked it up with a dropper, stored it in a small vial, and took home the results they had obtained with their own hands, experiencing the excitement of science.
Teikyo University will continue its efforts to convey the appeal of science to local children.
