On Monday, September 30, 2024, the results of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's teacher recruitment examination were announced, and 64 students * enrolled at Hachioji Campus passed.
The Teacher Recruitment Selection Exam is an exam run by prefectures (or cities in the case of designated cities) to recruit teachers for public schools. By passing this exam, students will be able to stand in front of the classroom as teachers after graduation. Hachioji Campus has established a Teacher Certification Center to support students aiming to become teachers, and is undertaking many initiatives, including exam preparation. Following the announcement of the results this year, the center has received many reports of success from students who have worked hard up until now.
Takui Tominaga (4th year, Faculty of Languages and Cultures), who was accepted into a junior high school (English) and a high school (English) in Tokyo, said, "I'm so, so happy! Thanks to the teachers at the Teacher Training Center who helped me practice my interviews right up until the exams, I was able to express my thoughts during the actual exams. I only have five months left of university, but I'm going to prepare hard so I can demonstrate my abilities as a teacher starting next April." He expressed his joy and enthusiasm for his future. Shunichi Kato (4th year, Faculty of Education), who was accepted into elementary schools in Hokkaido and Miyagi Prefectures in addition to Tokyo, also reflected on his efforts and offered advice to his juniors: "When I saw the results, I honestly felt relieved. After passing the first exam, I prepared for the second exam, even though I was worried about whether I would actually pass. The secret to my success was getting up early. I get moving when I wake up in the morning, and my mind and body are refreshed and ready to move, which allows me to concentrate and study."
Currently, students from 16 municipalities have been accepted to Hachioji Campus, and the Teacher Training Center is receiving a steady stream of positive feedback. Teikyo University will continue to implement initiatives to support students aiming to become teachers in each department, including the Teacher Training Center.
