Utsunomiya CampusA special open lecture was held at Utsunomiya Campus, featuring Maison Cacao President Ishihara.

On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, Teikyo University Utsunomiya Campus held a Special Open Lecture on Life Sciences for the University's Faculty of Science and Engineering Department of Biosciences.
The Advanced Bioscience Lecture is a lecture series in which faculty members of the department introduce cutting-edge topics in various fields in an easy-to-understand manner, covering not only the field of bioscience but also a wide range of topics in chemistry, the environment, and other fields. This time, as an open lecture, we invited one of our alumni, Mr. Shingo Ishihara, President of Maison Cacao K.K., an aromatic raw chocolate specialty store, to give a lecture.

Ishihara, a rugby player who joined our university's Rugby Football Club and served as its first student coach in his fourth year, working hard to raise the team's overall performance, spoke from a variety of perspectives, including how he came to make chocolate, the characteristics of cacao cultivation, sustainable efforts in Colombia, the producing country, and connections with domestic producers, as well as bioscience, management, marketing, and branding. After the lecture, there was a large Q&A session, and in response to a question such as "How do you approach starting a company and expanding your business?", he replied, "I believe it's important to approach everything with passion in order to pursue your own goals and to gain the support of many people, including your colleagues and customers."

The lecture was attended by over 100 students, including not only students enrolled in the Special Lectures in Life Sciences course, and ended in great success. Our university will continue to invite alumni and other active members of society as Senior Assistant Professor to provide opportunities for learning.
