Department of Global Japanese Studies, Faculty of Language Studies participated in a hands-on workshop at the Tachikawa Life Safety Learning Center

On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, international students from the Department of Global Japanese Studies, Faculty of Language Studies Teikyo University participated in a hands-on workshop at the Tachikawa Life Safety Learning Center (Tachikawa City, Tokyo). A total of 18 international students participated in the workshop that day: 9 from China, 3 from Vietnam, 2 from Mongolia, 3 from Thailand, and 1 from Mexico. Since some of the international students have only been to Japan for a short time and have never experienced an earthquake, this workshop was planned by inviting first-year students who are taking "Basic Japanese" to participate. .

On the day of the event, we were divided into two groups and experienced the actual shaking of an earthquake in a disaster prevention mini-theater, an earthquake experience room, and a smoke experience room, and actually entered an experience room with white smoke. Also, at the rescue corner, we put on helmets and climbed over rubble, and several people worked together to help a person (a doll) stuck under a bed. The staff of the Tachikawa Life Safety Learning Center explained in Japanese, but the international students understood the contents very well, and even in the rescue and rescue corner, they could be seen working together. She was able to have various experiences with her classmates, and the international students were also able to enjoy learning.

The department, in which students are enrolled, was established in April 2022, and has a capacity of 150 students, of which 100 are Japanese students and 50 are international students. In the first semester of the 2nd year, Japanese students participate in language and cultural training programs at partner universities overseas, and international students at partner universities in Japan. You can experience different cultures. In addition, students cooperate with each other using English and Japanese as common languages, learn while teaching each other, and acquire the ability to understand different cultures.
