Students from Professor Nakayama's seminar Department of Elementary Education provided learning support to local elementary school students atHachioji Campus

On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, students from Professor Kyoko Nakayama's seminar in Faculty of Education Department of Elementary Education, Teikyo University, participated in the "Karugamo Homework Club" for local elementary school students at the Tama City Wada-Higashiterakata Community Center (Ogurigawa-Karugamo Hall) and provided learning support.

This initiative began in 2025 following a call from the Wada-Higashiterakata Community Center Management Council to "create a place for children to gather that focuses on learning." It is held for two hours every Wednesday, and local elementary school students gather at Karugamo Hall after school to study with the support of students.
At the Karugamo Homework Club, students work closely with each elementary school student, helping them with school homework, quizzes, math problems, and more. For the children, it's a fun opportunity to learn while interacting with the students. Hiroshi Shindo, Vice Chairman of the Management Committee, said, "Until now, we've been creating learning opportunities for children through children's clubs and other organizations, but since last year, we've reached out to Teikyo University and been able to create opportunities for interaction with elementary school students in the main building." The students participating in the activities will begin teaching positions in April 2027.

Teikyo University will continue to support an environment where students can learn while engaging with the local community, and will create opportunities to deepen the connection between the university and the local community.
