On Sunday, July 19, 2026, the 16th Hachioji Children's Ginkgo Academy was held at the Hachioji City Lifelong Learning Center Building, Create Hall (Hachioji City, Tokyo), where Associate Professor Takako Tezuka Faculty of Education Department of Elementary Education, Teikyo University, and four volunteer students served as Senior Assistant Professor for a local cuisine class.
This year marked the 16th time this program has been held, and 11 elementary school students participated in cooking four dishes: "Barley and Millet Rice," "Homemade Hiryouzu (deep-fried tofu)," "Summer Vegetable Clear Soup," and "Watermelon Jelly." The students supported the cooking process while observing each child's progress, helping them experience the joy of working together to complete a dish. Participating students commented, "By dividing tasks such as cutting vegetables and making broth among the children, they learned the importance of having a role to play, and it was wonderful to see the smiles on the children's faces when they finished," and "I realized the importance of proceeding with ample time because the pace of work varied among the children." This workshop provided students with a practical opportunity to learn about how to provide appropriate support and conduct activities while interacting with children.
Going forward, our university will continue to create practical learning opportunities in collaboration with the local community, fostering student growth and contributing to the local society.
