On September 19th (Saturday) and 20th (Sunday), 2026, Takayuki Nakano, head coach of the Teikyo University Ekiden (Road Relay) Club, and 11 team members visited Shiranuka Town in Hokkaido to participate in community exchange activities such as lectures, running clinics, and road races.
Shiranuka Town in Hokkaido is the hometown of Coach Nakano, and this activity was realized at the request of Shiranuka Town. In the 102nd Hakone Ekiden in 2026, our university's Ekiden (Road Relay) Club showed a remarkable performance, rising from 17th place in the outbound leg to 9th place overall. The people of Shiranuka Town were impressed by the athletes, who have adopted the slogan "The team that never gives up in the world," and requested a visit as an opportunity to interact with local residents.
During their stay, Coach Nakano gave a lecture, sharing his experiences as both an athlete and coach, as well as the team-building philosophy that Ekiden (Road Relay) Club values. In addition, team members provided practical instruction at a running clinic for elementary, middle, and high school students, offering advice on basic running techniques and training methods. Furthermore, they were invited to a welcome reception hosted by Shiranuka Town, where they deepened their friendship with the local community. Team members also participated as guest runners in a road race, interacting with local runners and children.
This visit provided a valuable opportunity to deepen our ties with the local community and to give back to the region the experience and knowledge we have gained through our athletic activities. Teikyo University will continue to promote community contribution activities and deepen our ties with the local community.
