From Friday, August 28, 2026, to Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the seminar led by Yuji Kawakami at Teikyo University (Faculty of Economics, Department of Business Administration, Professor) conducted an overseas field study in Texas, United States, focusing on sports business and corporate management.Set against the backdrop of the United States—home to one of the world’s leading sports markets—this fieldwork program aimed to provide students with an opportunity to visit sports facilities, companies, and universities to learn about the operations of professional sports facilities, business strategies, and the management of global corporations.
As part of their sports business studies, the students attended a game at AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, and visited Daikin Park, home of the MLB's Houston Astros, and Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers. While experiencing world-class sports entertainment firsthand, they learned about stadium operations, fan services, and revenue generation mechanisms utilizing sponsorships.
At the Daikin Texas Technology Park (DTTP), the central destination of this training program, we received lectures on the Daikin Group's business strategy in the North American market and toured showrooms and factories. At the factories, we learned about human resource development initiatives such as the "Safety Dojo" safety training facility and the "Skills Olympics" aimed at improving technical skills. Furthermore, we gained a deeper understanding of the multinational workplace environment where 22 languages are spoken and the organizational management that copes with high employee turnover, experiencing firsthand the management practices unique to a global company.
Furthermore, we visited several local universities. At the University of Texas at Dallas, we interacted with alumni who had gone on to study at the university's business school after completing the Teikyo University Asia Exchange Program (TAEP). At the University of Texas at Austin, we watched the opening game of the Texas Longhorns, one of the most popular college football teams in the nation, and considered the role that college sports play in community development and university brand building.
Kokoro Tomoda (4th year, Faculty of Economics), who participated in this training program, said, "At AT&T Stadium, I was amazed by the overwhelming atmosphere created by the enthusiasm of the spectators and the production, and I realized that sports create value through the entire experience. I also got to see the workplace where DTTP's multinational talent is active, and I learned about the difficulties and rewards of running an organization while establishing a brand in overseas markets."
This fieldwork provided a practical learning opportunity to study sports business and global corporate management firsthand. Students connected their classroom learning with real-world applications, fostering an international perspective and practical business acumen.
