From July 13th (Monday) to 18th (Saturday), 2026, a public health practical training program was conducted at Vietnam National Children’s Hospital (Vietnam) for eight fifth-year medical students from Teikyo School of Medicine.
This practical training was conducted based on a credit transfer agreement between Teikyo University and Vietnam National Children’s Hospital. During the training, students learned about public health challenges, the healthcare system, the role of hospitals, and the medical treatment system in Vietnam, and observed actual clinical settings and various departments. In addition, they received direct instruction from experts in each field, deepening their understanding of Vietnamese pediatric medicine, infectious disease treatment, and hospital infection control through lectures and practical training.
During the internship period, we exchanged views with staff from Vietnam National Children’s Hospital regarding future joint research and educational collaborations between our university and the hospital. Concrete discussions took place regarding the possibilities of research and educational activities that leverage the expertise of both institutions, making it a very valuable opportunity.
The students gained a valuable opportunity to consider healthcare and public health from an international perspective, encountering a different healthcare environment, disease structure, and the efforts of healthcare professionals compared to Japan. They also interacted with local doctors and medical staff, and this experience will be a great source of inspiration not only for their future studies but also for their future careers as physicians.
We will utilize the experience and connections gained from this internship to further develop medical education, international exchange, and collaborative research in the future.
