A student from Faculty of Science and Engineering won second place at the 27th All Japan Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships atUtsunomiya Campus

At the 27th All Japan Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship, held on August 22nd (Sat) and 23rd (Sun), 2026 at the Tokyo Budokan Grand Martial Arts Hall (Adachi Ward, Tokyo), Mizuki Takahashi (1st year student, Faculty of Science and Engineering) won second place in the Adult Purple Belt Featherweight division.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a hand-to-hand combat sport developed by Mitsuyo Maeda, a Japanese judoka who emigrated to Brazil. He combined his judo and jiu-jitsu techniques with his experience fighting professional wrestlers, and it is now an international sport with a growing number of participants worldwide.

Takahashi has been competing since she was 5 years old and has been active in the purple belt class since 2025. The purple belt is an advanced belt that requires a wide range of technical proficiency, from basic to advanced techniques, and indicates a highly skilled athlete. To be promoted to purple belt, four conditions must be met: attendance of 240 or more classes, outstanding results in competitions, completion of the blue belt for more than two years, and the ability to smoothly perform the techniques of the standard class.

Takahashi is a member of the robotics club "RoboLab" at Teikyo University's Utsunomiya Campus and has actively participated in the design and construction of autonomous robots. His runner-up finish in this competition is a testament to his dedication to balancing academics and extracurricular activities, and further success is expected in the future.
