Kasumigaseki Campushosted the Environment and Energy Symposium, "The Intensifying Situation in the Middle East and the International Energy Order: Risks and Challenges to Stable Supply."

On September 11, 2026 (Friday), Teikyo University held an Environmental and Energy Symposium entitled "Intensifying Tensions in the Middle East and the International Energy Order: Risks and Challenges to Stable Supply" at Kasumigaseki Campus. This symposium brought together researchers from the university, as well as external experts, industry, government, and academia representatives, think tanks, media, and members of the general public, to discuss and disseminate information on the impact of the Middle East and Strait of Hormuz crisis on energy security in Japan, East Asia, and the world, the transformation of the fossil fuel structure, and future challenges.
The event began with opening remarks by the university's Chairman and President Yoshihito Okinaga, followed by four lectures, including a keynote speech. The lectures shared insights from multiple perspectives, covering topics such as the structural factors behind the increasingly tense situation in the Middle East, the history of dependence on the Middle East, the vulnerability of energy security in Japan and East Asia, and the transition to green energy and future countermeasures.
Following each presentation, a question-and-answer session was held with the participants, and a lively discussion took place regarding the necessity and feasibility of reducing dependence on the Middle East and fossil fuels. Finally, Kensuke Karube, Director and Specially Appointed Professor of the Okinaga Research Institute at our university, gave the closing remarks, bringing the symposium to a successful close.
We received over 100 applications to participate in this symposium, and we were delighted to see so many of you attend. Teikyo University will continue to actively disseminate research findings on important issues facing society and make further academic contributions.
