A research group led by Dr. Ohba has elucidated part of the mechanism by which vascular bundles regenerate when plant stems are damaged.

A research group led by Yusuke Oba, a postdoctoral researcher Department of Integrated Science and Engineering Faculty of Science and Engineering Teikyo University, and Masashi Asahina, Professor in the same department, has discovered that reactive oxygen species, which are generated when plants are injured, are necessary in the initial stages of regenerating damaged vascular bundles. The phenomenon of stem wound healing is a fundamental phenomenon in grafting, an agricultural technique, and it is expected that this will lead to the development of new grafting techniques in the future.
The results of this research were published in "Plant and Cell Physiology" on September 24, 2026 (Thursday). Furthermore, the published paper is now open access thanks to APC (Article Processing Charge) support from our university.
