Faculty of Economics students conducted a summer parent-child experience as part of their "Japan Heritage Supporter University" activities atHachioji Campus

On Sunday, August 16, 2026, students from Faculty of Economics at Teikyo University held the Summer Vacation Parent-Child Experience 2026, "Let's Complete the Fun Story of Mulberry City and Textiles!", at the Tama Textile Craft Museum (Hachioji City, Tokyo), with the cooperation of the Hachioji Textile Industry Association, and the support of the Hachioji City Japan Heritage "Mulberry City Story" Promotion Council and the Hachioji City Board of Education. Teikyo University is the first university in the Kanto region to be registered as a "Japan Heritage Supporter University," and this project has been continuously implemented since 2023 as part of a special lecture on tourism management taught by Professor Hisako Konno Department of Human Cultures Teikyo University Junior College College. This year, there were nearly twice as many applicants as there were available spots, and 19 pairs of parents and children (45 people in total) participated in the parent-child experience in the morning and afternoon sessions. In addition, representatives from Hachioji City Hall and the University Consortium Hachioji also visited the event on the day.

In addition to the popular authentic hand-weaving experience led by Tamaori traditional craftspeople, a new project was implemented using the "Mulberry City/Hachioji Quiz Sugoroku," a game devised and improved in previous years as a student project. Participants learned about the Japanese Heritage site in a fun way by taking on quizzes and crafts to collect stickers, and by placing stickers on a sheet depicting "The Fun Story of Mulberry City and Weaving" to complete the story. Furthermore, participants received stamp exchange tickets for a "Digital Stamp Rally" to be held in the future. This rally is a project in which participants will travel from the Takao Mountain area to the Hachioji-juku area, solving quizzes while experiencing hand-weaving and mulberry food culture, which are important resources that make up the Japanese Heritage site "Mulberry City Story." The project is being carried out with the aim of increasing interest in the Japanese Heritage site and promoting visits to both areas.

Going forward, we will continue to promote initiatives that utilize local resources to create experiences and opportunities for exploration, in collaboration with industry, government, and academia, and advance practical project-based learning (PBL) for tourism-based community development.
