A research group led by Professor Masanobu Kano and Senior Assistant Professor Takaki Watanabe of Advanced Comprehensive Research Organization at Teikyo University has revealed that inhibitory neural circuits in the brain reduce calcium signaling in adult glioma cells, including glioblastoma cells, and suppress mechanisms involved in the proliferation of cancer cell-responsive proteins such as YAP1 and mTOR.
This study demonstrates that the relationship between neural circuits and brain tumors involves not only an "accelerator" but also a "brake," which may lead to the development of new treatment methods.
The results of this research were published in "Neuron" on September 8, 2026 (Tuesday).
