Assistant Professor Tsunoda of Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology, participated in disaster relief operations following the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake atFukuoka Campus.

From August 8th (Saturday) to 12th (Wednesday), 2026, Kazuya Tsunoda, Assistant Professor of Faculty of Fukuoka Medical Technology Department of Radiological Technology Medical Technology, Teikyo University Fukuoka, participated in a disaster relief operation to Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture, as a member of the Disaster Medical Coordination Support Team.
This support team is dispatched under the framework of JMAT (Japan Medical Association Disaster Medical Team), based on the "Mutual Cooperation Agreement on Disaster Medical Care" between the Japan Medical Association and the Japan Society for Disaster Medicine. In the event of a disaster, the team will provide support for the operation of the JMAT Coordination Headquarters and other related facilities.

In the disaster-stricken areas, we coordinated with Yatsushiro City to ensure continuous water supply to clinics that were unable to continue providing medical services due to water outages. In addition, we provided support to hospitals in areas that recorded a seismic intensity of 7, as they were continuing to treat patients, in cooperation with other medical support teams. Furthermore, in cooperation with the Kumamoto Prefectural Medical Association, we created a notice calling for donations of relief supplies to clinics that were experiencing shortages of sanitary materials.

In times of disaster, it is crucial for multiple professions and institutions to collaborate to maintain the medical care system in affected areas and to deliver necessary support quickly and appropriately. As an educational institution that trains medical professionals, our university will continue to work in cooperation with relevant organizations to support local communities and disaster-stricken areas.

I sincerely pray that everyone in the affected areas will be able to return to their normal lives with peace of mind as soon as possible, and that the recovery and reconstruction of the region will progress smoothly.
